I do agree with my teachers who said that it might have been easier if the books had started with the dictionary form right away - you only learn it in lesson twenty or so, and even then, the vocabulary lists stick to the 'masu' form. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

The structure of the textbook is fairly similar for both series: we follow the adventures of a foreigner learning Japanese in Japan. They’re both popular beginner options - they both cover the need to know points - I don’t think you can really say you’ve ‘gone wrong’ by choosing one over the other, unless you personally find one to be more difficult/frustrating than the other. I will take a look at Cure Dolly’s videos to see if I can study with this style of learning, I know sometimes videos can be a great way to learn but can also be a bad way, in my experience watching videos to learn English helped me a lot when I began learning it but it never worked for Spanish.

When you can just explain something in a simple manner without having to dig deep into the world of grammatical terms, why do so? Also recommend turning the subtitles on in case you have a hard time understanding her strange voice. e., present, past, positive, negative) and I’m left without remembering clearly what the forms actually are… The presentation in the book is inconsistent. doing the exercises feel like being a factory worker in 1940s(you know modern city, Charlie Chaplin)…it’s too simple and too repetitive!

One of the biggest advantages of studying with the Minna no Nihongo series is that it covers such a wide range of topics. the things you will encounter most on Internet, mangas…) while minna will focus on the polite first (the masu form where you can safely talk, use them to everyone). Update: I revisited the CD from the main Minna textbook and it is a regular audio CD, so the 5 CD set must contain additional material. If you're more academic and want to learn as much as possible, this is a great option for you because you can take your time and soak in the knowledge.I mean the textbook looks nice, the pictures are on a healthy kawaii level and if you like the explanations why not go the minna route. Also, for the record, I’ve never taken a formal Japanese class, and I haven’t had any trouble getting through MNN without a teacher (other than Misa’s videos haha), because the lessons and exercises are structured pretty well for self-study.
