Description

After all the Daytime powers have triggered, it’s the higher ranked pirates who get first dibs on the loot tokens. The prospect of having to manage two solitaire opponents might sound daunting but rest assured it is not, as this is a fairly straightforward solo mode in terms of rules overhead. Libertalia: Winds of Galecrest is an action selection game for one to six players in which each player has the same set of six characters at their disposal at the start of the game. Ten years later, we’re celebrating the foundations of the original design with a revised and expanded edition that includes all-new art, 40 characters per player, a reputation system to resolve tiebreakers, deluxe loot tokens, a robust solo mode, and much more.

And having had the opportunity to play Libertalia: Winds of Galecrest in the company of friends I can honestly say that I prefer this game as a multiplayer experience. The fact that it provides a satisfying voyage of strategy alongside all of that is nothing short of a brilliant newly christened ship ready to set sail. Maybe you could mention that on the invoices, so that people realize that, i only knew because of previous experience. Perhaps others would have brought a different crew along for the journey, but Maylene knew her crew, and these were the ones she trusted for the job at hand. It’s double-sided, printed with player aids and everything is laid out in a neat and effective manner to help facilitate the gameplay. Full disclosure: A review copy of Libertalia: Winds of Galecrest was kindly provided by publisher Stonemaier Games. Some of the human loot tiles don’t make sense for Automa and some would be imbalanced, so you’d need to use the Automa loot tiles some of which would require house ruling for the same reason that some of the cards do IIRC. In fact, Libertalia: Winds of Galecrest excels at scaling up and down between player counts without adding to the overall game time.

Depending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you, may vary. What makes this particular solo mode so impressive is the fact that the Automa really, really has a knack for throwing bucketloads of spanners into your machine! We’re wondering about trying out the Pilferer instead of the Midshipman at a 2-player count, and I thought I’d ask if you guys tried that out at all during playtesting.Despite this fresh blood, the arbitrary nature of simultaneous play does make the hour-odd play time feel a little overlong. With the basics mastered, the strategy of optimising when to play cards from your hand and how best to utilise them, really comes to the fore.
