Rest assured, however, that despite any complaints from fans about early cuts of Blade Runner, the film in its original form is still powerful and nothing short of exceptional. We use cookies to give you the best possible experience on our site, provide personalised content and advertising, analyse our traffic, and ensure you see more of what you love. It most certainly is, if only because Scott's definitive vision at last closes the book on the film's epic twenty-five year saga.

I've seen the film at least 50 times over the years (seriously), and was absolutely floored by how many visual elements I'd simply never seen before.Scott can be a bit dry with some of his commentaries, but his insight here is consistently fascinating and sometimes engagingly blunt. It’s also possible that in mastering the image for 4K, someone has been a bit over-enthusiastic with the sharpness tools. The film's original domestic cut, with its tacked on narration and happy ending, will surely be a surprise if you've seen the "Final" version first. Blade Runner is present only in its Final Cut iteration on this Blu-ray disc, and is presented in 2.

I had seen Alien and that Blade Runner was also directed by Ridley Scott was part of the pitch my dad made in getting me to watch something I'd never heard of. Even better, Warner has not skimped on any version of the film presented on the different Blu-ray and HD DVD editions. In celebration of Blade Runner's 25th anniversary, director Ridley Scott went back into post production to create the long-awaited definitive version. Even if the upcoming Blade Runner 2049 ends up being a subpar sequel, nothing can diminish my love and appreciation for this film. I never liked this movie so much, but since the expert critics say is that good then it is that good, like it or not is something else.I had to pause it and get up close to realise that the wall is actually textured, and that texture extends to the edge of the window frame, making it look jagged. The film’s ambience comes across as well, with spinners flying in all directions, explosions going off every which where.

Directed by Ridley Scott and starring Harrison Ford as Deckard, Blade Runner is a must-have in every film library. Any source defects have also been eliminated, with the TrueHD track always perfectly clean and smooth across the entire sonic spectrum. There’s a lot of love out there for this Blade Runner 4K HDR transfer, so I’m probably not going to be popular when I say that I think it has significant issues. It’s just a shame that the wonderfully vibrant new grading comes with significant grain and noise strings attached. People looking for ‘3D pop’, for hyper-real clarity, for a full-on surround impact are going to be disappointed, but then again, if you’re expecting a 30 year old film.

There’s some interesting chat about different versions of scenes, The 4K edition of Blade Runner features a new Dolby Atmos audio mix that’s at least as amazing an achievement as the revamped visuals. The whole attraction of Blade Runner was the creation of a realistic, lived in, enveloping future world, where you could pause any frame, and any aspect of that frame could prove inspiration for a dozen other stories. Visually spectacular, intensely action-packed and powerfully prophetic since its debut, Blade Runner dazzles in Ridley Scott's definitive Final Cut, including extended scenes and special effects. To that point, this isn't a complete set of bonus features and unfortunately is short sighted in that it doesn't do any pre-release promotion of the upcoming Blade Runner 2049.
