Keď u Gelonga došlo k hraničnej situácii a vyhoreniu, hľadal spôsob, ako napraviť svoje chyby a spamätať sa, kým má čas. By using these techniques, even on your journey to work you will be able to find moments to practise mindfulness. Gelong Thubten has worked with everyone from Silicon Valley entrepreneurs to Ruby Wax and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Our desires are stoked by advertising, social media and other aspects of our modern consumer culture, while the tendency to seek pleasure externally eventually becomes a mental habit. Mi-a mai captat atenția faptul ca autorul dezbate anumite mituri despre meditație și își mărturisește propria experiența. Thubten portrays his own, personal way from an apparent bohème enfant terrible to becoming a monk in Tibetan Buddhism in Scotland. Thubten showed me how simple it is to bring meditation into my life, clearing up the many misunderstandings and misleading information, and the endless possibilities for peace of mind and happiness that I would otherwise miss out on due to being the uptight worrier that I currently am. He works with major global companies such as Google, Accenture and LinkedIn, and has lectured at Oxford University and for the United Nations. How empathy only gets you so far so practising compassionate behaviour is vital to improving all of our daily interactions. Allowing us to maintain a more substantial state of happiness and stopping unnecessary surges of adrenaline and cortisol from ruining our life experiences. In the absence of a regular meditation teacher, I have found that it helps to read as many books as possible on happiness, mindfulness, and just being.

There is some guidance and having both the audio book and the hard copy were handy as there are guided meditations at the end so having someone read them to you rather than you having to read them whilst practising was very good, but also having the hard copy to reference was very handy too. Through mindfulness we can discover the deeper potential of the mind - our inherent compassion, wisdom and true freedom. Overall a great book for beginners although there's valuable information here and if you read the whole thing I would think almost anyone could benefit from the information.

Whenever your mind wanders, simply observe where it’s gone and gently bring it back to the experience. If you think you're doing it right, I bet you'll be able to pick up at least one useful tip from reading this book. Thubten is able to explain meditation using clear language and an approach which really speaks to our modern tech-infused lives. There is the other argument of the Buddhists, who are concerned about the notion that we keep Craving – which is the problem that keeps us from achieving Nirvana as the nec plus ultra, the ultimate Joie de Vivre – but not in the French, epicurean way, which has no problem with it, indeed, it can be the catharsis we can achieve – the position in which we do not crave for anything anymore – and even when we are – let us say humanely, transitory, as mere mortals – happy, we fear that this will go away and thus we do not enjoy the benefits of what the Buddhists know and teach us – one of them being this monk – the problem being that even the peaceful Buddhists can go astray – I was reading recently about Myanmar, former Burma, and the Buddhists that have sided with the military junta and even worse, an important number of the supposedly peace loving monks have been involved in violence against the Rohinga, Muslim minority, because of religious conflicts, perhaps a touch of nationalism too.

In his youth he tried to find it through living a wild and extreme lifestyle as an actor in New York. Gelong Thubten is shining a light on the positive and ameliorating effects of meditation whilst also debunking and explaining the classic misinterpretation of the practice.

First part walks you through the theory behind meditation and also offers plethora of handy advice about the practice itself. I do think, however, that this book perfectly illustrates how we Westerners desperately need to change our ways.

This book really does help you to change your life for the better, in the simplest possible yet most profound way. He has appeared on some of the leading health and wellness podcasts, including Deliciously Ella and Poppy Jamie's Happy not Perfect. Publication dates are subject to change (although this is an extremely uncommon occurrence overall). If we are not training our mind, the very fundament of our universe (because our whole world is how we perceive the world!Such a good book for the moment, didn’t find it too preachy or spiritual at all which I think would have put me off. This book is written in a style that is very easy to read and the guide to meditation is perfect for beginners.
