that I felt the story and the characters really captured something of the world we live in as modern women in a Britain that would still rather not talk about things. The monologue is essentially the first series of the show, but incredibly pared down to roughly an hour of dialogue.

She runs into Arsehole Guy, but the awkward sex that ensues makes her run back to her emotionally fragile, on-and-off boyfriend, Harry. It has all the wit, heart and fourth-walling of the series and it really felt as if you were a fly on the wall, watching the series be filmed, rather than reading the book on your couch covered in Belvita crumbs (just me? She’s woke enough to be conscious of the importance of consent, but alarmingly old-fashioned/female enough to move her boundaries when “I’m drunk and I owe him a ‘thank you’ for being nice to me”.

Fleabag: The Scriptures includes new writing from Phoebe Waller-Bridge alongside the filming scripts and the never-before-seen stage directions from the award-winning series. It cannot be denied that the television adaptation of Fleabag has helped define an era, so it's interesting to see how it began. It's really refreshing to read something that addresses parts and experiences of life that are so cotidian yet slightly taboo and unspoken of- Brilliant. After being refused a business loan by Bank Manager for her failing café, she meets and argues with her high-achieving sister, Claire, at a feminist lecture. And then the next morning, you wake to find him fully dressed, sat on the side of the bed, gazing at you.Claire re-steals the sculpture for Fleabag, after which Fleabag rekindles her relationship with Arsehole Guy.
